This is a unique, 3D Crinoid stalk fossil from Crawford, Indiana. Crinoids still exist today, but this particular species lived 350 million years ago during the Mississippian Age. Crinoids, also known as Sea Lillies, look like giant underwater flowers but are actually animals. This is the 'stem' or Stalk of what must have been a massive Crinoid. Most Crindoid stalk fossils are small - in the Middle Ages the stalks that washed ashore were used as beads. The largest Crindoid fossil found was measured at 130ft!
