Ammolite Palm Stone

This is a flashy Ammolite specimen shaped into a palmstone. A rare and beautiful Ammolite fossil hailing from the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta. You will receive the exact Ammolite specimen shown. Excellent color range on this Ammolite including blue and violet hues which are more rare. Stained glass look.  Purchased at the 2025 Tucson Gem Show.

Ammolite is an opal-like organic gemstone found primarily along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains of North America. It is made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, which in turn are composed primarily of aragonite, the same mineral contained in nacre, with a microstructure inherited from the shell. Ammolite is the colorful surface that forms over Ammonite fossils. Ammolite comes from the fossil shells of the Upper Cretaceous disk-shaped ammonites. The ammonites that form ammolite inhabited a prehistoric, inland subtropical sea that bordered the Rocky Mountains—this area is known today as the Cretaceous or Western Interior Seaway. Ammonites were cephalopods, that thrived in tropical seas until becoming extinct along with the dinosaurs at the end of the Mesozoic era.
